Meet Mr. John Daly

Mr. Daly is our new English teacher here at Pittsburg School.  He attended Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford, CT and enjoyed competing for the cross-country and track teams; he also played baseball.  In high school his favorite subject was English.  Following high school he attended both Keene State and Southern Connecticut State and made many lifelong friends.

Mr. Daly and his younger sister grew up in Wallingford, CT.  His favorite childhood book was Babar, the Elephant which he enjoyed because he “likes funny elephants”.  He and his friends liked to play Monopoly, Sorry, and backyard baseball using tennis balls and aluminum bats.   In school, his favorite science project was making gold pennies in chemistry class.  When in kindergarten, his favorite art project was making a turkey by tracing his hand.

Currently, Mr. Daly does not have any pets and has not yet joined any community organizations.  He says that his favorite holiday is Christmas, and he loves eating Hershey kiss cookies during that season.  Robin Williams will always be his favorite comedian, and he enjoys watching Tom and Jerry cartoons.  Asked what his favorite vacation destination is, he responded, “Maranacook Lake in Readfield, ME.  My happiest childhood memories are of fishing, swimming, and family [times] there.”

Before Mr. Daly joined us here at Pittsburg School, he worked at McLaughlin Middle School in Manchester, NH.  Asked what he likes best about his life, he answered, “my family and close friends”. His personal motto is “Yesterday’s the past, tomorrow is the future, but today is a gift.  That’s why it’s called the present.”  When asked what he likes most about teaching, Mr. Daly said, “Knowing I can make a positive change in the world that will last long after I am gone.”
